Sorbonne Winter University - French as a foreign language program
Take advantage of your winter stay in Paris to learn or perfect your French in the heart of the historic Sorbonne building. Each French as a foreign language course lasts two weeks.
The Sorbonne Winter University offers two levels of French as a foreign language courses from 13 to 24 January 2025: A1 (beginner) and C1 (advanced). For more information on these common levels of competence, please consult the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Anyone wishing to register for C1 (advanced) must provide proof of their level in the form of an official document or a certificate issued by their French teacher. Exceptionally, no online level test will be offered by the Sorbonne Winter University.
Please note that the number of seats is limited.
Level A1 - Beginner
The course hours for these levels consist solely of general French classes in which the different language skills will be worked on: written comprehension, oral comprehension, written expression and oral expression. The themes and materials chosen will also enable participants to familiarise themselves with different aspects of French culture, including lifestyle, the French education and university system, and the history of the Latin Quarter.

Level C1 - Advanced
These general French courses, consist of three-hour sessions in the morning and three hours in the afternoon, where the different language skills will be worked on: written comprehension, oral comprehension, written expression and oral expression. The themes and materials chosen will also enable participants to familiarise themselves with different aspects of French culture, including lifestyle, the French education and university system, and the history of the Latin Quarter.
A culture and civilisation course consisting of ten one-and-a-half-hour sessions is designed to provide an overview of French culture and civilisation. The main French currents of thought and artistic movements from the Renaissance to the present day will be presented using a variety of media : literature, music, painting, film and architecture.
